A road less travelled

Our fifth trip north & we were looking for a road not done before. We had considered doing, but never got the nerve to do the Campbell Highway before.

Watson Lake to Carmacks. Split it over 3 nights. YT Government CGs every night. First leg was 3hrs to do & only saw 4 vehicles going in the opposite direction. Nothing passed us & we passed nothing.

A very scenic & memorable drive well worth doing.
  • We are used to camping in the bush here in Southeastern BC and have traveled logging roads all my life so I’m used to gravel roads.
The info on fuel stops is great, with my camper on the truck I get about 600kms ( give or take) to the tank, and to 900 kms when the campers is off the truck, so at slower speeds on a gravel road will be great for fuel economy. I’m good to go with the one fuel stop at Ross River.
    Thanks for the info.

  • Fillup with the last drop possible at Watson Lake or Carmacks, depending on which way you are going. There are about 6 PP along the way. Faro has fuel. Ross River has fuel. Drive with extreme caution. There is NO cell service. Be prepared as best as you can be for any possible problems. There is no pressure water at the CGs so fill before you go.

I don't consider the trip high risk but it is not a hop from KOA to KOA either.
  • We are thinking of doing Yukon hwy 4 as well in a few weeks, and tips would be appreciated
