across New Mexico

a leg of the trip we are heading out on is from Gallup NM to Roswell NM. we would like to avoid going through Albuquerque. looking at taking 602 south out of Gallup to Fence Lake and on to intersect with US 60 and just stay on that east and intersect with I 25 and US 360 to Roswell. I'm pulling a 27' TT. anyone know if this is an ok rout for me to take? looks like my only concern is HY 36. looks like it's out in the middle of nowhere but that's ok as long as it's a doable road.
  • re Socorro to Roswell via 380
this is our favorite way to go because we like staying at the Valley of Fires Fed Campground just west of Carrizozo. BUT from Carrizozo on, the road narrows a bit and some of it is a bit rough...not bad, but not real smooth, either. It takes you through some pretty country and Lincoln where Billy the Kid's famous fight took place. if you're lucky you'll hit it during Old Lincoln Days..look it up on the net for the dates.
After Lincoln, the road gradually gets better until it turns real good when it meets the road coming from Ruidoso.
  • Are you staying at Bottomless lakes state park near Roswell?
I hope so as it a great place.
You may want to stop in Pie Town, NM for a piece of pie.
    Lovely, lonely scenic roads
  • Gallup to Socorro (at I-25) easy 2 lane drive roughly 200 miles/4 hr trip
Fill up in Gallup and then again when you get to I-25

Then you would take 380 to Roswell......roughly 165 miles/3 hr trip. Nice road with different terrain

All in all a very nice drive
