Adirondack Mtns in a Class A Towing?

We are in Toronto on a cross country trip from CA to Cape Cod and return. We are deciding on our route in NY and wonder if traveling west to east across the Adirondacks is an option for us. What do you think of the roads and is there a best One? Our other option is to cross back into the US at Cornwall and go straight to Vermont. We like antique shopping and are also looking for towns or locations that would be good stops for us. Any help would be appreciated.

  • You won't go wrong with either route. The highways through the Adirondacks are good, but the will be ups and downs and curves and turns (they are real mountains) but nothing scary. Each is a nice ride.
  • I don't know anything about the specific area you are considering traveling, but I have found that if traveling to an unknown area and accessibility with the truck and trailer, I rely on Google Maps.

Using Google Maps, zoom in on the roads you are considering traveling. Zoom all the way in and follow the path. Now, if you see semi-trucks on that route, you'll have no problem traveling with an RV. If you follow the entire road with Google Maps and there is not a single Semi-truck anywhere, then chances are, it's a risky road. It could also mean it's just to slow for transfer trucks, or there are no fuel stations readily available on that rout that will accommodate Semi-trucks. This is a good way to make an initial judgment on the accessibility of the road with your RV.
