Ala hwy 82 to Columbus, Ms

Live south of B'ham & considering alternative route to Tupelo,Ms on our way to I-40 and westward. Traveling thru B'ham, then west on hwy 78 to I-22 is a pain. Would like to take "back road (hwy52)" over to I-459 to I-20/59 (took this route last summer going to Texas), then hwy 82 from Tuscaloosa to Columbus,Ms and then hwy alt 45 up to Tupelo to cath I-22. Has anyone else taken this route and how is the road? We are pulling a 31' 5er. Also, any gas stations along the way that I can gas up, pulling the 5er? Thanks for your advice.

I've taken this route (US 82/45) several times in my travels from Colorado to Alabama (family in Tuscaloosa area). It's a good road, didn't have a lot of traffic, able to make good time without the stress of interstate driving.
  • Piece of cake good road with only moderate traffic. I would suggest not taking 82 thru Tuscaloosa but continue on i-20 to exit 68 to the toll road then go north to 82. You will miss a lot of traffic and pay only a small toll.
  • 82 is a good 4 lane highway.

there is a Kangaroo Express on Hwy 82 in north Tuscaloosa
    5525 McFarland Blvd
    Northport, AL 35476

there is a Loves' Travel Stop off Hwy 82 in Columbus MS at Hwy 50 (Tuscaloosa Rd). At the end of the exit ramp, turn right (west).
