Columbus 295RL

Can you get to the refrigerator with the slides in on the Columbus 295RL?

Its so hard to tell from mfg website floorplans. There are no units locally (right now), and nothing that I could find on the owners forum.

Fridge access is a must for us, since we have to park on the street to load and, more importantly, unload.

  • Thanks for the replies. Since a new truck is not in the current plan, the really nice Cedar Creek is out of our capability. We looked at the Silverback 29RE but a) you could not get to the fridge with slides in and b) the bathroom sink/mirror were right against the wall so you needed to be a contortionist if you were right handed and wanted to brush your hair and look in the mirror at the same time and c) believe it or not in a unit that nice there was no bottom cupboard big enough for the 20# bag of dog food.

Maybe by the time we go to our next unit we'll have a bigger truck. I am finding several options if we are willing to go to 37' but am really concerned about fitting into campgrounds. I can think of many where it is a bit short with our 30' 5er -- although a center door will give us more options within campsites so might actually make it seem shorter. The rear door does pretty much mean you can access the fridge and bedroom.

Unfortunately it seems like all the nicer brands are no longer making shorter units. I have seen a trend on mfg pages of "dealer stock only" on shorter models. Watch for my forthcoming rant post on this (after I do a bit more research) :)

On edit -- I am continuing to search for something to put on my list of possibles to compare against the Montana High Country 325RL.. Then will have a post asking about those models.
  • I am not sure what price range that you are looking but if you are going upper end, the Cedar Creek 30RL may fit your bill. Although called a 30 RL, the outside dimension is actually 34'9". It has opposing living room slides and a bedroom slide. The two absolute must haves for us in an RV is access to the bathroom and refrigerator with the slides closed. This one fits the bill nicely.
The only down side is, we got a 2013 model, and I have heard rumors that Cedar Creek is taking the 30RL out of their line. They say they haven't sold many but when we were looking, we had to check out a lot of dealers' inventory before we found one we could actually see, sit in, etc. Virtually all of the dealers only had the larger units in stock and we were sure we did not want to go bigger than 35'. So maybe CC is in a catch 22, they aren't selling as many of this model as they would like and folks are not buying this model because they can't physically see one.
  • This is the one we have. Although a little longer than you stated, we love it because I stand on the ground and hand stuff through the door to my wife who puts it directly in the Refer.

  • Thanks. Too bad, it looks like a nice unit. I need to be able to load and unload and dry fridge while parked on street in front of house. It is looking near impossible to find a nice rig 35 ft or less. Maybe need to start thinking about one where we could open curb slide. Only problem is the extreme crown on the street.
  • From what I am told by someone who has one, with the slides in, you can get the fridge door open about 3" which allows you to reach a soda in the door. The freezer door opens, though.
