Since the Shakwak Agreement was signed in 1977, over 1.8 billion dollars have been spent upgrading and maintaining the Alaska Highway System (an international highway) in Canada.
U.S. and Alaskan governments have accounted for 22% of expenditures on the Canadian portion of the Alaska Highway and Haines Road – US$399,554,041.
Yukon and Canada have accounted for 78% of the capital and maintenance cost – C$1,432,097,872.
