Each fishing season is different with runs as the state imposes restrictions....as when the regional areas are open for fishing during the same timeframes every year, the fish counts tend to be low at times or they have good runs.
When it comes to fishing in Alaska for migrating salmon, it is hit and miss and you have to be there at the right place at the right time for fishing and for wildlife.
Denali is the same scenario, times I seen wildlife and other times I have not - luck of the draw.
My friend just came back from the peninsula yesterday and caught many fish and reached his limit in most places and has them in the smoker as I type...it does help that his sister works for federal fish and wildlife and her husband was born and raised in Kenai as well and know where all the hot spots are at the spur of the moment.
But it is Alaska....just sayin'.
