Getting a passport is not really that big of a hassle. Get a couple photos, go to a post office and fill out application.
Not going to Alaska or anywhere north of the US is a trip of a lifetime.

Sounds like you and your wife take separate vacations. I can see why she does. :) There is absolutely no hassle using a passport. Yes, the lower 48 has many, many wonderful places but so does Canada and the Yukon. If you choose not to go - your loss.

So what is the problems with passports? Just fill out the form, have your photo taken, make out your check, send it in and it comes back in about 6 weeks or so. Eazy Peazy! Now you can go where ever you want. If you don't want to wander outside the borders, don't make up excuses. There are a lot of beautiful places north of the border that you will miss. Your loss our gain with fewer people to deal with.

Totally agree!!!!!!!! Just because you have a passport does not mean you have to use it and you are still not required to travel out of the USA:) I am curious as to the real reason he is making such big deal out of traveling out of the usa!!!! political, previous bad experience ????????? Yup, our Alaska trip was a one time trip and cross it off the bucket list.

But it turned into a great adventure and we're going back next summer.

Geez...passports aren't that difficult to obtain. Just get one and stop worrying about it.

Sure is an expensive way to avoid getting a passport.

For DW and me:
21 Truck (no driver): $1882
DW and me: $547 x 2
Total: $2976 each way.

And then if you went straight through, 4 1/2 days without access to the camper or a place to sleep.

Would make a lot more sense to fly up and rent a motorhome for a couple of weeks.
