Oct 12.... Nov. 12th...4+ weeksLeaving Albq, down I-25 to Deming, How is route 26 ? or should I go on to Las Cruces, then going I-10 to Tombstone then to Phoenix.Have never been on this route... where do you suggest to stay, site see etc.I have 35' Class A with tow car.Thanks for the info

You need to eat at Sparky's in Hatch.Route 26 is better than I25 with the exception of being mostly 2 lane. Skip Las Cruces. I10 is pot hole central.Go to Karchner Caverns in AZ. a warm cave and very interesting.Catalina state park in Tucson is nice.

Unless you have some other reason to go through Las Cruces, you should definitely use 26, its good road and saves lots of miles/time. Albq to Tombstone is only about 6 hrs driving, so where to stop depends on how many hours you like to drive and what your interests are. Deming would seem to be a logical stopping point and there are things to do and see around Deming.

I agree on 26 over I25. If you decide to stay near Deming, we enjoyed Rockhound State Park. There is not any shade in the park but we were there in October and it was nice. You are allowed to collect a nice amount of gemstones if you enjoy that.

Unless we need to go to Las Cruces we always use 26 as it saves time and fuel. Sounds like you plan on visiting some southern NM/AZ sites being that I-40 west gets you to PHX faster from ABQ. Great time of year to do so, hope you have an awesome trip.

Also there is the UFO Museum in Roswell. You wouldn't want to miss that would you?

There is a lot of nice country around there. I served at WSMR in the 60's, skied at Ruidoso.

The best chilis (IMHO) are at Hatch, NM, just north of Los Cruces.

If you are not going to stop in Las Cruces, take NM-26. We enjoyed Las Cruces. Old Mesilla just South of Las Cruces has a nice historic district. In October, they have Mariachi Sundays. The White Sands Missile Range is not too far from Las Cruces. Unfortunately, 2014 was the last Enchilada Festival. We also stopped for a few days in Truth or Consequences and drove the Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway.

make sure to stop and see the THING in Az. about 25 miles east of Benson. Has a DQ at the stop.:)

You wouldn't want to visit Carlsbad Caverns? We went from Santa Fe to Carlsbad and then returned via 70/380 thru Ruidoso, Alamgordo, Los

Butterfield RV IN BEnson is a great park. YOu can also visit Bisbee and the Titan missle museum in Green Valley is good
