Algodones Eye Glasses

We have heard people go to Algodones from Yuma for dental work. Are there also eye glass places there? And can anyone highly recommend any of them? If so could you please provide directions for someone who has never been there? Thanks
  • Brian, we have bought all our glasses since retirement at Algodones Optical and have never been disappointed. There are many other places there and some may be a tiny bit cheaper but when we find a place we like and get good service from, we stay with them. If you are there in the morning, you will get your glasses in the afternoon. If you want special coatings, that takes time (several days) but they will mail your glasses home to you. I can highly recoment Algodones Optical.

PS: I sent you an email
  • We have used Algodones Optical on several occasions! Pleasant Stores Quality Products and knowledgable Staff!
Prices are a lot less than Costco ,or any other Optical Store that We have been to in the States or Canada!
There are different price points on Frames....We usually choose from the slightly higher ,but not Most expensive selection. The cheapest ones are like cheap stuff everywhere and are easily broken!

The Lenses offered also come in different price levels ,just like at Home!

I bought Two pairs of transition Bifocals two Years ago that are still working for Me!
  • Last year when we were their one store had a $29-$39-$49 dollar price list for glasses. We did not get any
as our time was short. I talked to many people (the lobby was packed) and all were very happy with the store and for many this was repeat buying. The store is inside the small shopping mall area buy the bakery. I plan on getting to pair from them this year. Also the whole shopping area of Algodones is only
a few blocks long so you can see everything first than go back to the store of your choice. Good luck and
    enjoy.
  • The comparison to Costco is not encouraging. When we checked Costco in the states the glasses we wanted were well over $400. We got our glasses last time in Palomas south of Deming,NM for about $170 including the exam and no-line bi-focals, transition sun lenses, scratch proof, lightest plastic lenses - and the frames. Hoping to find that kind of pricing in Algodones. Took less than 2 hours total. Thanks for the replies.
  • Good prices, quality glasses, and fast service. "Go have a margarita and come back and pick them up".
  • My wife had glasses made there - took a few hours - prices were about the same as at Costco stateside. I think they all use the same grinding lab. I think the place we used was Algodones Optical. It's right across the street from the US customs re-entry line. Pay cash - some take checks, but cash always works.

Interesting, but when we first went in they made a call and said they didn't have any lens blanks of the size my wife needed. So we went to another storefront down the street. They made a call and did have the lens blanks. Then we noticed the connecting door to the store we'd just left.

We hate to negotiate, but pricing in Algodones does appear to be flexible on almost everything. We always start by saying we're "just checking prices". Whether it's drugs or booze, that line always seems to get some lower prices than posted. Might work on glasses too.
