I don't have a problem with people asking what is the best way to get from A to B. Real life road experience is much better than a map alone. Especially if you're driving a vehicle that can't simply turn around and go back the other way if it gets stuck.
I actually have more issue with people who ask things like "how long should I spend in X?" or "we're going to X, what is there to do?" or "should I go to X or Y?" Why are you going someplace if you have no idea what's there? Why would you trust a stranger to tell you whether a place would hold interest for you? That just seems nuts to me.
But, yes, as a whole, people have forgotten how to research. So often I see posts on forums like this stating "I'm a student doing a report on X. Tell me all about it." While "google it" is a common comment, no one wants to go through all those results to find what they're looking for. Instead, they hop onto a forum and ask strangers for the answers. I suppose it's the common need for instant gratification that seems to have permeated our culture - folks can't handle the delay of taking a few hours to research for themselves, so they go to forums and ask because forums tend to provide immediate responses (although not always correct responses).
