Wife and I are heading to North Myrtle Beach area late this week. We're tired of taking the same old route thru Knoxville, Ashville and Columbia. Been that way many times. We'd like to try a new route and have looking at going thru West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina this time.
New route would be:
I71 East out of Cincy
US35 South down to Charleston WV
I64 South and then to I77 South down to North Carolina
I74 South thru North Carolina
501 East to North Myrtle Beach
Has anyone been on this route lately ? How are the roads and traffic on a Friday/Saturday ?
thanks,
I can't help except NC. Were I you. I would save some miles, and run 74 / I-74 / future I-74 east to hwy 410. Just before Whiteville. Run 410 to 701, run 701 to hwy 9. run 9 to 31, hit 22 off 31, and come out at the Walmart on 17, Go right onto Kings road, and down to either Myrtle Beach travel Park, or Apache. Easy, and much closer than going all the way down to MB, and then coming back up. And there are big signs to help.
Also know. 501 does not go to North Myrtle. It goes to Myrtle Beach itself. Then you would have to run 17 back up to NMB
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at that route. We are staying right next door to the Apache Campground in a condo this year. When going this was way we take the Conway Bypass which I think is 22.
Seems like traffic out of Florence and to the Conway bypass is always horrible. So going the way you suggested would avoid that mess.
We like it, and use it whenever we go to North MB. Little to no traffic once you hit 31, and the traffic on 9 isn't bad.
410 and 701 are both 2 lane roads, but have never had any problems, or backups. There is a gas station, and Subway, and Burger king just after you hit 701. A good place if you need to stop. Then on to 9 which is 4 lane
