Alternative to I-95 North on Memorial Day?

Question

We will be traveling from New Green Acres in NC to Woodbridge VA on Memorial day. I imagine I-95 will be a parking lot even more than usual. Any suggestions for an alternate route using state highways? Google maps offers a few but I was wondering what the experts here think.

You could look at 301, just not sure where you would pick it up or how close to Woodbridge it would get you. Maybe even for short sections at a time, near Woodbridge you might be able to get to get to Rt. 1
