Our bank in western WA does not charge an exchange fee, but just gives you the CA money in exchange for US funds at the current exchange rate. My experiebnce is that expecting a CA merchant to accept the US dollars at face value is unfair in that you're forcing that merchant to go thru the time and trouble of converting your US funds into CA funds before he can make a bank deposit. As others have posted, just exchange your US funds for CA funds at a bank after you cross the border, that's the easiest and best way. By the way, I think that the CA dollar is currently increasing in value compared to the US dollar; they don't have as many politicians trying to spend like our people do.
