Also, watch the amount of cash you carry, as you may need to declare the amount and have the right forms prior to crossing. We found it easier to just use ATM's or CC's. BTW your friends are partly right, SOME merchants take US, but give change in CN (and had a few of them even discount the US for the exchange rates). I know, just got back 2 weeks ago.

Don't know where you live but I filled up at Mr Gas in North Bay On about 4 days back. No pre-payment .... Visa was just fine. Most of our end of Canada is like that. Big cities ... maybe not!
