- TequilaExplorerIt maybe the turbo, right now I just intend to watch it closely and try to get it back across the border. I have added that hotshots oil treatment which is supposed to maybe fix turbo issues, plus injector cleaner. Can't do much else except stick with a caravan group so I have some sort of help if I dont make it. Fuel economy seesm OK. Hard to tell if I am losing power as I am now paranoid, and oil looks clean and no overheating.
- robatthelakeExplorerShould have gone with the Cummins for sure!
Sorry to hear about your troubles ! Good Luck . - bighatnohorseExplorer IIHave you check the Duramax forum group?
Another problem is that those small repair shops sometimes are not always the best.
A well known shop here in the Phoenix area did work on my 6.0 diesel - I followed up with a visual inspection and found a severe problem. Took it back to them. Also noted other minor sloppy work from them that I took care of myself.
Sometimes those shops can create more problems in the course of paid repairs. - briansueExplorerWhite smoke on a diesel can also be the turbo - if you have a turbo. Turbo must be oiled and even a very small leak can put oil into the cylinders.
- sonoraExplorerWhite smoke sounds like a timing issue to me.
- TequilaExplorerWeather is the pits this year. I did go to Laredo, they replaced one bad injector, but now its smoking again so I am back where I started. It was still smoking when i picked it up but they said that was probably unburned fuel in the exhaust system. Well 700 miles later its still unburned. I am now in Patzcuarro, traveling north with a caravan, so I have support. I am trying to get it to the place in California that did them last year. They will warranty at least the injectors which are $3K of the cost. I am selling the truck when i get home and going gas. I only need a 3/4 ton SRW, not a 1 ton diesel. I psend so much tiem down here, having a diesel engine no one can work on with any assurance of competence is not a good idea. You can even take a gasser to a dealer. With an extar $12k fro diesel and the high cost of maintaining them, diesel $1 a gallon more, gas is looking better all the time. At least traveling with a caravan there are people on it towing trailers, so if something happens I can get mine towed into an RV park. Oil looks good, don't seem to be losing coolant, mileage good, no overheating, but still blowing white smoke. I have tried hotshots injector cleaner. No change but maybe it will stop it from gettign any worse. Maybe one or 2 others are leakingn a bit.
- JerBearExplorerShould not be a problem When we cross there are lots of cars and suv's etc crossing both ways. How's the weather??
JerBear - TequilaExplorerThanks Jer, BTW can you tell me if its Ok to cross at columbia with just the truck, the sign on the Mexican side indicated it was cargo only. I crossed on bridge 2
- JerBearExplorerSorry to hear about your problems. I too am thinking about a gas for my next truck.
JerBear - TequilaExplorerAfter seeing a botched job on the same engine with somebody else 3 years ago (they ended up having to have it towed out of mexico), I decided to make the 1.5 day drive to Laredo leaving my trailer in Guadalajara. Its is an injector. This is the 3rd swap in 113K. one under warrenty at 60K, the second after 40 K and now a bad injector after 13K. At 11 hours labor to get at them and put it back together, its expensive. The shop in LA who did them last year is going to try to get Bosch to cover at least part of the expense this time as it was obviously a flawed injector to begin with. I had had a FASS lift pump installed last time to improve fuel filtration as well. They said with that they have never had one come back with less than 150K on them. They are shocked this one only lasted 13K.
I am considering changing thsi truck for a dodge as anyone can work on a cummins engine or I may go with gas. I tow a 5600 lb dry trailer. I reaaly do not need a 1 ton dually, I can manage with a 3/4 ton SRW and tolls would eb a lot cheaper.
