Arizona 188 Globe - Roosevelt

Looking to head for Roosevelt Lake from the south, probably Globe, in a diesel pusher with toad. My Mountain Directory says the road is mediocre, can be rough and has a couple of 9% grades. I'm wondering what 'mediocre' means, what current experiences might be and is it worth looking for another way. Don't mind adding miles if it makes my life easier but I'm not seeing much without going through the metro area.

  • We've driven that often and didn't even realize there was a grade! It's nothing to fret about. :)

At Roosevelt Lake the best places to stay are Cholla or Windy Hill national forest campgrounds. From there you can drive the Apache Trail over to Apache Junction - take your car; definitely not the motorhome! An absolutely beautiful day trip. If you didn't want to backtrack from Apache Junction then head up to Globe again (stop at Boyce Arboretum) and back to your RV.
  • just before the lake about fives theres a very nice rv park, staed there a month couple years back.its right where the marina repair shop is,I,ll try and find the name. if your a fishermen? theres huge crappie in the lake. spring creek rv resort. 928 467 2888 thats a old number .
  • There is a 1500 ft climb at 5.5 to 7 percent. The 9 percent grade is only for a hundred feet, really short. You will not have any trouble. Mountain Directory is full of doom and gloom IMO.
  • The road is fine. The climb is real but traffic is light. No other way to get to Roosevelt. I'm here now.
