We had not been to Roosevelt Lake (east of Phoenix), in nearly two years but had planned to meet friends from Phoenix there Monday afternoon following what turned out to be a disastrous medical appointment. We delayed our departure until the following morning which posed no problem as we had the TT out front packed and ready to roll. We found the lake to be down about 40 feet since our last visit, the bottom of the large boat ramp is a good 100+ yards from the water but it is still a gorgeous spot. The lakeis 26 miles long and two to three across and provides all sorts of water sports and great fishing to boot.With our Golden Age pass it cost us a whopping $3 a night. The amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, nice steel Ramada's in each site. The girls kayaked while the guys hung out in camp (we all seem to be limping a lot lately). Nice pictures.They did increase the height of Roosevelt dam a few years ago, so it can hold more water. I guess we have not been geting enough rain to make it worthwhile this year, perhaps next?Fred.

Nice pictures.

They did increase the height of Roosevelt dam a few years ago, so it can hold more water. I guess we have not been geting enough rain to make it worthwhile this year, perhaps next?

Yes, that is indeed Windy Hill. We had forgotten just how beautiful Roosevelt is. As soon as I get back on my feet we will be back. Still can't believe it is only $3 a night. :S

Any suggestions as to which of the CGs are better and which worse? We are headed there tomorrow for a day or three. I do know to buy the Tonto Pass. I just realized tomorrow is Friday, lol. Will there be sites open?

We are looking for scenic and roomy. And avoiding rowdies, drunks, etc. I read something about Schoolhouse CG, but never see it mentioned. Any good?

And how is the dispersed camping? Same price as within the CGs?

Well if you can put up with me and couple of our friends I would have to recommend the Windy Hill CG. My buddy got up there this afternoon and we will be leaving first thing in the morning for the two hour drive. There are lots of nice spots but windy Hill, which has several large loops, is our favorite. Pick up your Tonto National Forrest Pass at any of the local merchants (watch for the signs offering the pass for sale). You will find flush toilets and hot showers all for $6 a night with gorgeous views of the lake, fire rings tables and even Ramada's for shade (our Geezer pass gets us in for $3 a night). :B

We are in the Coati loop(the first right as you drive in), in site #40. As usual it is gorgeous.
