Arkansas vacation

Would like to take a two week Arkansas vacation from Texarkana Texas up thru Mountain View - maybe to Eureka Springs & back down & would like your suggestions of where to stay & places to see in this approximate area. We are able to take a day drive from site if necessaery. Not familiar with Arkansas at all. Beautiful state would like to see as much as I can. Thank you for any help you can share.
  • Ozark RV Park in Mountain View. Visit the downtown square and listen to the locals play music. Visit the Ozark Folk Center, right next to the RV park. Visit the Dulcimer factory.
  • I am going to Arkansas this weekend for several weeks. Also interested in places to stay/see, especially state parks.
    Thanks
  • Buffalo National River. We loved the campground at Buffalo Point and spent a lot of time on the river

Crater of Diamonds State park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas.

It has one of the nicest campgrounds in the US. Private tree shaded paved sites with full hookups. Large park, adjacent to the crater of diamonds (keep all you find), walking and biking trails, small gift shop and store.

When we were there, a young lady found a 3/4 carat yellow diamond.

Read more about the park at http://www.craterofdiamondsstatepark.com/

  • Petit Jean State Park is beautiful and has rv sites with full hookups on the lake. Have a great trip.
  • Arkansas suggestions:

    1. Blanchard Springs Caverns. We've been to quite a few caves and this one is notable for its generally pristine condition. Above ground, make sure you hike to where the springs come out.

    2. Consider camping at Lake Ouachita SP. FHU available. There are also COE CG's at various places around the lake. Hot Springs is within driving distance from these CG's.

    3. Agree with visiting Eureka Springs. Lots of up and down walking so you'll get your exercise. Interesting historic houses and buildings. Loved the Local Flavor Café. Be prepared to wait for a table. Some interesting art galleries. We camped at Beaver Lake COE park nearby.

    4. Drive the Talimena Scenic Byway on the border of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

    5. Spend a rainy day exploring the Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville. Except for a special exhibit they may be presenting, the rest of the museum is free. Amazing collection of North American art, from pre-Revolution to today. Plan on a full day if possible. The building and the gardens are interesting in themselves.

    6. Don't know if you are going this fall or in the spring. If the river levels are good, plan a float/canoe trip on the Buffalo River. Also many hiking opportunities here.
  • You could start here

Then travel to Hot Springs and stay here. Nice park to stay at to see the sights in Hot Springs. Make sure to eat at McClards

Then spend a night at Petit Jean State Park

Then travel up to Blanchard Springs Caverns. They have a beautiful campground but no hookups.
But you can stay at Buffalo Point Campground as another poster pointed out.
Also Sylamore Creek Campground in Mountain View is nice. Be sure to visit the Ozark Folk Center.

In Eureka Springs we stayed at Wanderlust RV Park On your way home you may want to visit Mt Magazine State Park. They have a great campground. Very roomy.

Well told you some of my favorite places in my state. Leaves should be starting to turn maybe and you may see some elk in Buffalo
river area. I think I may be a little envious right now! Have fun!

    Hope this helps!
  • this past summer we stayed at the state park in the diamond state park. Not all sites are pull thru most were back in. Make advanced arrangements if you can, we lucked out a reservation was not filled and we got the spot. pretty nice place, the diamond search we did not do due to all the mud from the rains they were having. Lotsa folks tried seem to have fun but we never did see any 'finds'. we stayed at the KOA in hot springs, pretty nice place good folks to deal with it seems. again many back ins. as to the hot springs themselves, no public springs just hot baths in spa's. They do have some good free hot water/mineral fountains to get drinking water from. Take some jugs to fill ($1 ea locally).

just out side the diamond park there are 2 I think rv places, the park was better IMO. Getting there from the interstate you can 'visit' klintons home, the parking lot was empty when we drove by.

X2. - would also add in Bull Shoals White River State Park; advice from native Arkansan
  • Visit Hot Springs. Suggest you stay at Gulpha Gorge Natl Park, it is absolutely beautiful. Also, it's a short walk to downtown Hot Springs and the bath houses. If your using GPS as directions to Hot Springs, don't take Route 7 if you have a MH as it is narrow and has lots of sharp curves. However, it sure took us through some beautiful country.
