I would take US380 west at Greenville to US281 south back to I-20.
At one time, 380 was a good route. It is still a good road, but due to massive population growth and associated traffic, no longer a good bypass route. Just the 35 miles between east side of McKinney and west side of Denton there are over 40 traffic lights now and lots of traffic to go with them.
I live just off 380. :(
380's issue are not just between McKinney and Denton.
The construction in Farmersville is starting to get finished. But you can still be detoured onto small city streets any day.
The construction on 380 west of Denton in Wise county has reached a stage to not cause delays, but the construction on 380 in Denton county is starting to cause delays.
And of course driving through the center of Denton with their narrow lanes and constant traffic turning in and out of businesses is so much fun.
