Are after market warranties worth it ?

Hello to all. I have a different question for those of you that have been traveling in your motor home. We retired in 2023 and in 3 summers have put about 10,000 miles a summer on our motor home. We have really enjoyed so many places in the US. We are now out of "warranty" does anyone recommend "aftermarket warranty" such as good sam has available? Or do you just take the chance that slide outs, refrigerators, ac units and everything else in the motor home will keep on working?

  • if you didn't buy an extended warenty when youbought it then no,don't add one now.  even some don't like extended warenties, but I got one that cost me 2500 bucks and I got 2000 back if I didn't use it in the 8 years, so that served me well, gave me peice of mind for just over 60 bucks a year.  but I would not add one after the fact they are much more expensive and have more limitations on them.  the better thing to do would be to take that 3 or 4000 it is going to cost you and just put it into a account for rv's repairs and then put 50 bucks a month in there to keep building it up.

I have bought 2 times an extended warranty at a total cost 0f $11,800. I still have 3 1/2 years left on the second. I have used it several times and because of how parts and reliable service are today my savings was $ 12,700. The total cost for everything was $24,500. So, you can see I have saved a lot of money over what I paid for the warranty coverage. The expense today of parts and service will only continue to cost more. Why spend all this money on a RV and not protect yourself from the possible future expense you may have. Why do people have health insurance...... for just in case. Remember it's your choice, so whatever happens down the road will be based on that choice you make. Also shop around for insurance and you will see it may not be all that expensive.

so in a round about way you are saying you agree with me?

  • From what I have seen here, the answer is overwhelmingly "hell no". I think most people feel it is a better idea to have a fund set aside that you can add to every month for any repairs that come up.
