It depends on what interests you. I never know what people mean when they say "attractions" because it can mean theme parks, big waterslides, natural wonders, museums, just about anything. For me it means cities, historical sites, small towns. A lot will depend on your route, whether you route to visit places, or route for shortest trip.
What's on the way for a reasonable route? Philadelphia. Pennsylvania Dutch country around York and Lancaster. Harrisburg, with State Capitol and fire museum, drive up through the Susquehanna valley to see what the Allegheny mountains look like in cross section. Pittsburgh, with its bridges and Golden Triangle, Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Science Center, Cathedral of Learning. Dayton, the National Museum of the Air Force and the Aviation Heritage National Historic Park. Indianapolis is worth a stop at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Then up I-65 to Chicago; living four years in Chicago, taking half a dozen vacations since, we've not seen everything Chicago has to offer.
Once going west on I-90, you have to get creative. Visit the Spam plant in Austin, Minnesota. Corn Palace at Mitchell. USGS Earth Resources Observation and Sciences Center at Sioux Falls. When you get into the Black Hills, there is more to the area than the carvings on Mount Rushmore, e.g. Custer State Park for shortgrass prairie and bison herds.
If you come back on I-94, there is Theodore Roosevelt NP in the Badlands of North Dakota, Little Missouri National Grassland. Bismarck to see a small city not yet spoiled by suburban sprawl (though a recent growth spurt could change that). Mall of America at Minneapolis if you want to see an indoor amusement park.
