Seligman and Ash Fork have some old style cafes and tourist oriented shops. A lot of motorcycle groups on the road, but nothing exciting. The scenery is not that different from I-40. Go to the AZ DOT site for construction info. I remember it as cracked asphalt with little or no shoulders, but no bad potholes either. I have not driven that way for 10 years though.
