Bakersfield, CA to Houston, TX advice/suggestions...

Planning a trip with our travel trailer (27') for this time next year. As I'm looking at a map, there are a couple of routes to choose from. We'd leave early enough so we can stay and enjoy the sites ...

CA58 > I-40 > US95 (not AZ95) > I-10 east to Houston. Using US95 to get to I-10 will bypass the climb to Flagstaff (7200ft) and some of the roughest parts of I-40.
Using AZ85 from I-10 > I-8 > I-10 will bypass driving through Phoenix.
