Bakersfield Transient

What is the fastest route from 58 west coming into Bakersfield, CA to I5 north? I've taken 99/46 and was wondering about some of the roads closer to Bakersfield. I believe someone posted about 7th Standard Rd? But OK for a RV?
  • If I understand your question correctly, you are traveling west on route 58 from Tehachapi and want to get on I 5 northbound?
The best route with least traffic is to stay on 58 to 99 and then north on 99 and exit onto 7th Standard (Merle Haggard) westbound to I-5.
7th Standard is four lane divided for about 6 miles then is a wide two lane road all the way to I-5. Little traffic, and that traffic moves well. A couple of traffic signals just after leaving 99, and then one stop sign. Otherwise an open drive. Using this route you will bypass all Bakersfield congestion. Try it and you will like it!
  • Seventh Standard is good. Also there is the new Westside parkway. Not tied into 99 yet but just follow the signs for 58/Rosedale highway west. Head west on Rosedale Highway and then turn South(Left) on Mohawk street and it will take you to the Westside parkway. Nice six lane highway that will dump you out on Stockdale highway and then just a short two lane section and you are on I-5.
  • 58 is now open but dusty until the residue of the mud gets blown away.
  • Highway 223, through Arvin also works great, and you totally avoid all of Bakersfield when going to or from I-5 to highway 58 and on towards Mohave!

    Good luck,

    Fred.
  • I've tried other ways but 99/46 is my choice.

You might want to check on the 58 part over Tehacahapi(sp). I believe that is where they had the recent mud slides and it may be closed for some time.
