Best Route between Nashville TN and Branson MO

Highway US 60 across Southern Missouri is now all 4 lane divide and very RV friendly. Great route to take between Nashville TN and Branson MO. Also a very scenic drive too. A good campground is centrally located in Poplar Bluff right off US 60 and US 67 Camelot RV Campground.
  • Well I can understand having a tire defect causing a "white knuckle" experience.

Lol! We're not far from Branson and have camped there a few times. The roller coaster hills start just south of Ozark and there are several of them between Ozark and Branson, and I've had a white knuckle ride a time or two on that stretch. You can avoid them by taking the Highlandville exit just south of Ozark and take Hwy 160 south into Branson. Nice wide highway without the hills and not much traffic.

Hwy 160 depends on the time of day whether it is busy or not. I drive it daily to work to the Branson West area and it is busy between 7-9 am and again from 3-6 pm. It is a nice wide road but only 2 lane with few areas good for passing and many blind corners.
The road from 65 to Highlandville (EE Hwy) is very curvy with only one passing area.

Depending on where you are camping in Branson, the above route will put you about 5 miles west of Branson.

Not sure what is "white knuckle" about 65 South of Ozark. The hills are not that bad (we have done them pulling a 5th wheel and driving a motorhome).

You drive them every day so your used to them. To someone pulling a large trailer for the first time, they can be a bit intimidating as the previous poster didn't like them either. My "white knuckle" experience was the result of 4 ply OEM tires on my truck that experienced "sidewall flex" while trying to keep my speed in check going down the long hills. I've since travelled that route several times without issue, but I now have a much better tv/tt set up. Just something to be aware of for the first time traveller.

  • Agree with Dick_B. Make sure you aren't overloaded on US 65. Loong Roller-Coaster, but straight.

  • I-24 to Paducah, Cross at Cairo, US60 to Springfield, us65 to Branson. Hate the bridge at Cairo, but it can be done. Much prefer to cross at Dyersburg. From Nashville, I-40 to Jackson, US412 to Kennett, MO., us53 to Poplar Bluff, then 60 on. From Lexington, TN, its a long one-day trip, we stop at Lake Wapplla overnight. We use that route, and its good roads all the way. Mostly all 4-lane, except us53 in Mo.

I was wanting to head for Northern Arkansas coming from I64 in Virginia on one trip pulling my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer...

I like to never made it to Southern Illinois to cross the Miss River trying to get on US67 to head down into Arkansas....

I chickened out taking the I69 something Parkway across Kentucky and sort of stuck to US62/60 coming across...

Finally crossed the Miss River at Fort Defiance and made it to Popular Bluff where I got on US67 and headed down into Northern Arkansas to visit some old AF Missle Silo friends...

Then after surviving all of that I headed back up North again on US67 into Missouri and started following the St Francis River up West of Fredericktown MO to do some Bone Digging for our BRADDY name associated with a place called BRADDYFORD...

Figured I would get all of the strange roads out of mind in one big swoop haha...

We camped out just off the E road that lead to the banks of St Francis River where BRADDYFORD was suppose to be located on that trip... The E Road didn't even have a number identifying it haha...

You gotta love these last minute out of the blue road changes... Sure glad I was pulling my small trailer haha...
