Yes the weekend will help quite a bit. But Los Angeles is a big area with a lot of people. If during the day there will still be be traffic and a few slow downs.
Another thought. as tempting as it is, stay out of the carpool lane if towing. It seems that the carpool lanes there are the unofficial fast lane. If you get in it expect people to be on your bumper breathing down your neck if you're not doing 80.
