I've made that trip many times and never had a problem getting diesel. We have never stayed at Buckhorn, but have seen it from the freeway several times. Looks like a nice RV park.
One suggestion I have: while in Kerrville visit the western artists museum--I know that's not the name, but it is surely the idea. We always enjoy going there.
We usually stay in Fredericksburg and just drive over to Kerrville.
Lots to see in Fredericksburg: Museum of the South Pacific, Wildseed Farm, Wineries all around, Luckenbach, Enchanted Rock, and in Spring bluebonnets all around.
