Best route from Mid South to Great Falls?

Myself and 10 retrievers will be heading to Ak end of May, and I'd like to cross the US another way this year. This is my 5th trip, and usually I leave Memphis and travel N to Sioux Falls before heading W on I-90. With my F250 at limit with the dogs and camper, I'd like to dodge the hills between Sturgis and Billings. I can go further N and cross on I 94, or cross in the south on I-80 or I-70, and then head N thru Denver. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thx
From 2015 trip..
  • I train them to hunt for clients, and we go up to escape the southern heat. I base camp in North Pole, and will head out in different directions for a week somewhere for new grounds. Just happened to find great places to train near where fish are being caught:)

  • Dog up,
What do you do with 10 retrievers? Do you sell them in AK?
My lab and I spent 3 months in AK hunting birds - best trip of my life.

  • Thx for that..
Guess I was wanting to stay on US roads and services as long as possible, and never considered going the route you suggested. Mapquest actually shows it to be 2hrs closer this way:) New experience on horizon..
  • we crossed into Canada at North Portal, ND our two times. We heard that the Winnipeg crossing was a lot longer time wise cause of heavy traffic. Our crossing was only few minutes. Spend the nite at Weyburn, SK city park.
  • Not looking at the map but we have come out of Canada into ND and taken 1-29S. You could go north 1-29 through Winnipeg, then TC 16E. Just a thought-
