Best Route to Fall Creek Falls Tenn from Louisville ky

We're heading to Fall Creek Falls State Park and staying at the campground. We'll be travelling I-65 south from Louisville. Any suggestion on a 1/2 way decent route. Our Good Sam's Plan a Trip seems like it's taking us on a lot of back roads. But maybe that;s the only way to get there. We have a 30 ft fifth wheel. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I wanted to thank Coolmom42 and all that seconded her directions. It was really a nice drive going that way. And we had a real nice time at Fall Creek Falls.
  • Thanks Coolmom42 and all the rest for their comments. Looks like that's the way I'll go. Heading there over the Labor Day weekend.

  • Fall Creek Falls is the most popular state park in TN. I have not had the good fortune getting in at the time I can go, its always booked up. Heed the advice you've been given.
  • I live in Middle Tennessee and these directions are spot on and what I would do.

I strongly recommend you pick up a TN road map at the state line and check out where the park actually is. There is a reason you have to get on back roads to get there. DO NOT trust GPS directions.

My advice is to take Briley Parkway (SR-155) from I-65, over to I-40 eastbound. Then take exit 288 in Cookeville. Go south on TN 111, then take TN 284 into the park. That takes you in on the side of the park closer to the campgrounds. Farther east, 284 is pretty crooked and you will not want to take the 5th wheel through there.

Stock up on groceries etc in Cookeville.
  • X2 on the advice to NOT try TN-30. Been there, done that, won't ever do it again.
  • Coolmom is right, take TN-111 from Cookeville. You do not want to come in from TN-30 on the north side of the park. I might take TN-109 down through Gallatin TN to stay out of Nashville. But there is a whole lot of nothing between Cookeville TN, and Bowling Green, Cave City KY.
