Having driven those roads when living in CO, I would go along with Busskipper's route of 7 to 9 to 34 to 40 or even 70 to 40 to 34. I passes on the 70 are up there but it is interstate a and doable. But any routes I list would be fine with your equipment.
If staying in Grand Lake, make sure you get over to the east side where nearly all of the beauty and activity are. It is a good hour, with no traffic, to get over to Estes. Virtually all the viewpoints for RMNP along Trail Ridge are on the east side past the Visitor Center at the top. And the road to Bear Lake - a must - is over there as well.
