Depending on the size of your rig, state hwy 134 has some steep twisty sections going over Gore Pass, and if you have an issue its out in the middle of nowhere. You can take 131 all the way to US 40 near Steamboat, but then you have to climb Rabbit Ears Pass on 40. For the 10 yrs I lived in Steamboat, I preferred hwy 9 from Silverthorne to Kremmling to get to 40. The hwy 9 route will take about 15 mins longer, but a much easier drive and just as scenic.
