My preferred route, Michigan to Florida, is US-75, but I'm usually starting out on the eastern side of the state.
Getting across Michigan to US-23 (to connect with I-75 in Ohio) means using I-94, which is as bad for road condition as I-69 and I-65, and often much worse for traffic. I just made six trips across 94 last month, wasn't happy with it. Now we are into the construction season, and there will be work zones between Jackson and Ann Arbor, at the very least, those were going into effect as I left.
I think the best road across from western Michigan to connect with I-75 will be 80/90, the toll road and the turnpike. Was last on it summer 2013.
