- Sue_and_BillExplorerThank you everyone for your input. We haven't been there before. Lived in Ensenada four years, had a house there for 10, so comfortable with Mexico, just not RP. Want to avoid tight roads, routes, so maybe the right at the checkpoint/glorietta is how we should go.
- SelkieExplorerHi Galvanized-
Thanks for the new route. I will try it next time.
The only stops I had were at the border where I was asked for my truck and trailer registration and passport, then south of Sonoyta at the usual Red Cross stop. I always give them my spare change.

Not sure I'm getting to you, as new to forum. But thank you very much for your information.
Have you been to Puerto Penasco before? If you have, you can follow either of the two listed directions. (Mines easier tho).
If not then sorry, it sounded like you kinda knew your way around? - GalvanizdExplorer

I was there 2 weeks ago. Go past the circle to Samuel Ocana further towards town. Make a right at the light. There is a sign there that says Sandy Beach and Choya Bay. You will be heading somewhat north. Cross the railroad track and keep going . You will come to a small traffic circle with a Pemex. Head left to the tall resort buildings. You will then keep right, past the resorts where the road becomes dirt. In about 1/4 mile, you will make a left to the Reef.
Yes you can go that way too, but its right through a narrow portion of road and a busy part of town. We used to use that until the new road came in.
Next time you go take a look at the traffic circle turn. Much easier and nicer road and meets up at that same Pemex station in the traffic circle.
Were the Mexican Marines still doing the checkpoint outside of town? - SelkieExplorerBTW- I used Google maps to find this route. Check it out.

- GalvanizdExplorerJust before town, there is a traffic circle. Mexican Marines had a checkpoint there in March. Signs should say Cholla Bay , El Golfo, Sandy Beach resorts? They change. You can see Puerto Penasco from the circle. Hang a right at the circle and take the road to the next stop sign. about 3 miles. Stop sign, make a left. It takes you to the circle that has the Pemex station in it just outside the high rise hotels. Easy drive to the reef.
