Definitely ride the bus. For 5 years, we tented it in a Blazer. Thought we knew it all, never rode the bus. Got a moho in 1990, and realized what we were missing! The buses are a big part of the adventure.
Water temperature is a big thing for us, and bugs. We want warm ocean, and are in it a couple of times a day. Bug spray works well, but it's nice to only have to use it at sunset, instead of all the time.
No matter where you go, you'll have a great time!
Caravans? They used to be an issue in parks. Not any more. We occasionally hear about them being on the road, but it's not a thing to worry about.
For years we thought Mar Rosa in Mazatlan was paradise, but finally found 85 degree water in Zihuatanejo, and now that's our paradise.
Many places have good websites and message boards. Here is the one for Zihua: zihuatanejo.net
