Apparently there is a secure Pemex in Los Mochis that you can park in overnight, can anyone pin point its co-ordinates on Google earth and/or give ,me its number?
PEMEX 7027 is on the east side of the hiway. As you go south you have to turn around and go back to it. We stayed there going south last October. There is a fenced parking area behind the station with a guardhouse at the gate. We gave the guard some pesos but I don't know if it was required. It was hot, dusty and noisy but it IS a truck stop. Coming north in the spring we stayed at an older RV park off the west side of the highway. Run down with horrid bathrooms we didn't use but it did have electricity and was quiet except for the roosters in the morning. We would stay there again rather than be at that PEMEX
From my records...it was Pemex # 4925.... South of Los Mochis We stayed overnight last year on the way down Not too many trucks coming and going during the night Gave security guard 50 pesos ......area was gated,so felt secure enough to stay
We use the PEMEX over the RV park. It has a horrible reputation, and theft and supposedly robbery, is a real issue. The fenced, secure area of the PEMEX, at least in the past, is a quiet area, where generators aren't run at night. They also have beautiful shower facilities if you need them.
The one with the secure parking is also called La Pilarica It is on the east side of the highway. Southbound, just over the bridge at the southern edge of Los Mochis exit right and go back and under the bridge.
Northbound, keep an eye out for the bridge coming up and exit right. There are signs as you approach for a rest area, which is in fact the Pemex.
We have stayed there in the past but now we just leave early. stop there for fuel or lunch then carry on. San Carlos-Mazatlan. Leave at dawn, arrive at dusk.
25.78289° -108.87635° This one is about 4 to 5 miles south of Los Mochis on the west side (southbound side). We have stayed there a few times and have seen posts here - one above - where others have stayed. Totally fenced with security guards and has always been relatively quite. This is not one of the close in to Los Mochis truck stops. You can see both satellite and street view on Google Earth. We try to make sure to buy fuel and tip the security guard. I think there may be a restaurant and pay showers but not sure as we have not used them. I believe it may be 4925. Closer to Los Mochis are too busy and noisy.
We had always stayed at the RV park until last fall when we stayed at the truck stop on the east side of the highway on the way down with the La Peñita Caravan. We personally will never stay at the truck stop again. The RV park has cleaned up somewhat and has someone on the premises overnight and locks the gate at @10:00PM, and we will continue to stay there in the future. Even with the roosters.
We are like Canadian Rainbirds-leave San Carlos at about sunrise, and go to Mazatlan. Nothing to see along the way on the highway, and no good place to exercise two large dogs!
Usually, on our way north in the spring we leave Mazatlan early (for us around 8:00 AM), and just drive to Guaymas, kind of a long day, but there isn't much to do in Los Mochis and we usually go by it around 1:00.
Briansue is correct, that Pemex is #4925. It is just past a large Monsanto chemical plant heading south. Here is my note from my Blog:
"We are in Los Mochis in back of Pemex #4925. There is a secure, fenced compound with a gate and 24 hour security. The guard checked us in, wrote down our plate number and had me fill in my name and address. There is no charge but we tipped him $50 pesos. We were the only RV this night and shared the lot with maybe ten trucks. There is a restaurant attached to the station where we had fish tacos for me and beef medallions for Norma."
