Big Bend Hwy 118 or 385
Im wondering if there is a difference between taking Hwy 385 or Hwy 118 into Big Bend National Park. I'm sort of interested in checking out Terlingua but if 385 is a better road then we won't. Has anyone done both?

- Thanks all. Guess since we are coming from the west we'll take 118 into the park and 385 out.
- Both good roads. Some curves. Some hills. Wouldn't let the road enter into the decision. Both roads have a Border Patrol checkpoint on the northbound lane.
- I go every year at Christmas, usually via 385 but I've done 118 a couple of times. They're pretty much the same except 118 has a pretty steep grade coming out of Alpine.
Both will take you to Panther Junction inside the Park which is about 35 miles from Study Butte and the turnoff on 170 that goes into Terlinqua. The drive between Trelinua and Persido on 170 is a nice scenic trip. - years back I went in on one of them and out the other. only hassle was a road block setup by the border patrol.
