Big Lagoon S.P. Fla. to Niceville

Planning a trip and staying @ Big Lagoon S.P. Fla. I want to travel coastal route to Niceville on Hwy 98 is this a stoplight after stoplite road or easy flowing hwy. I have never been this way and would enjoy seeing the coast but do not want to hit a traffic light every intersection .

Thanks for the information.

  • U S 98 from Pensacola to Destin (Niceville) is suitable.
Some traffic lights, but traffic moves fairly well.
A suggestion.....when you cross the 3 mile bridge from
Pensacola to Gulf Breeze and continue east on 98, watch for the
sign pointing right/south to Pensacola Beach. Take that
route ($1 toll at a bridge)......on the island, keep left/east
down a 45 mph speed limit road with almost no traffic
along the beautiful gulf.......to Navarre, where that road
    ends.....turn left/north , cross a free bridge, and the
go right/east on 98 to Destin (Niceville)

Guess I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed as although it always bothers me when people post questions here that should be posted elsewhere... Just because you drive a class A, why not post this under roads and routes? You've been on here for five years.

The OP has broken no rules and perhaps he wanted the perspective of other Class A owners to consider obstacles to taking a large vehicle down this road. Perhaps you dreamed you were appointed moderator of the Class A forum before you got up on the wrong side of the bed?

His question was about the number of traffic lights... not obstacles. I actually think he'd get better info under roads and routes although we now have "Travels & Favorite Places" under class A.
You will notice I did not suggest that the next post (LA to ID) should have been in roads and routes as his question did pertain to driving a class A (night stops food and fueling) plus he has only been on here of a little over a year.
Guess I'll go back to bed and try getting out the other side. :B

That gave me a great chuckle to start the day with:D
  • Suggest you study your atlas/map real close, Niceville is not Destin.
To get to Niceville you will have to take 85 around Eglin AFB to get to Niceville which is on highway 20. If you are going on east of Destin stay on 98 towards Panama City. Tip toe thru Mary Ester as the law is always out and love to see out of state plates.
    Good Luck

  • Thanks for the information from those with good intent. I thought thats what this forum was set up for. But lately I have been having my doubts.

  • We lived there for 30 years and I can tell you do not travel Hwy 98 on weekends and not anywhere near 8 am or 5 pm. Never use it on Friday afternoon. Traffic is murder. Otherwise the road is good and traffic flows pretty well. Travel at the speed limit also or you will get a ticket.
