Billings to St. Mary, MT

Taking our 5er from Iowa to East Glacier, but want info on segment from Billings to East Glacier on our final day. Our TV is an 8 liter Chev and gas mileage is terrible (< 8 mpg), towing a 34' 5er. What is best route, cross country or stick to Interstate? Thanks in advance.

    If you are taking the 89 into Browning...take the 464 from Browning into St Marys. The 89 is pretty curvy from Browning to St Marys. The 464 is an easy drive and will take you back to the 89 North of St Marys.

    We usually take State and US roads from Billings to Great Falls. 3 to US 12/3 to 3 to US 87/ST 3/200 to Great Falls. Good 2 lane roads, little traffic, fairly flat.

    Xcountry...plenty gas out there. Re-fuel at half or so if you feel the need. Or if headwinds take you down to 4 mpg.

    Go Northwest out of Billings to Great Falls and then onto Browning. Then decide to goto St. Mary or go on Hwy 2 to West Glacier. Remember you can't take your trailer on the Going To The Sun Rd.
