Birmingham...I 20 W to Lindale, TX 69 N to Sherman, TX 82 W to 287 N/W to Amarillo, TX I 40 W to Barstow, CA 58 w to 99 N into Bakersfield. You will miss all of the Dallas MetroPlex this way with pretty good roads.
