Boise to LV, nevada rt 93 or 95?

When going south from Boise to Las Vegas, we have been down 93 many times, but I have often wondered about going down 95..How does the road compare to 93... more or less hills, width etc.?

I've done all of 93, but only the south half of 95 (from Reno)... I found 95 somewhat interesting, especially the sprawling ammunition depot at Walker Lake, as well as driving thru Tonopah and knowing we were next to the Nevada Test Site.

Both are quite remote, though. Watch your fuel...
Rode a bus that way in the early 60 right when Kenndy and Cuba were at it, Made me wise I was somewhere's else.

  • I don't care where I am or how long it takes to get somewhere, done both a few times. Enjoy both or only one.
  • We have traveled from meridian to las vegas area over both routes.Have encountered some snow and ice on both.
Both are good roads ,not too much traffic.WE will will be back in meridian in nov for a month then go south.Going to go down 95 this year to winnemucca over to battle mountian then south on305 and 376 to tonapah.Been this route before and prefer it over 95 all the way.good roads here too.
We usally get late start out of idaho so stay in casino lot at battle mountian then get started early next am .good travels

  • Have taken both several times and much prefer 93. It's more than 200 miles shorter and more scenic than 95. Quite a few hills on the south end of 95, too. The only advantage to 95 is that it's at lower elevation so in winter or early spring it's sometimes the safer choice.
