Bridge Height Clearance

The best app that I have found and use is CoPilot, You can set the preferences in RV mode to avoid low brides and propane tunnel restrictions. It also has a car mode when using your tow car.

I'm fairly positive that my Garmin tried to route me under a low bridge. We ended up following the signs on the road to Stone Mountain, GA - but the website warns of a low bridge if you come from the west which it appears that our Garmin tried to take us. Not sure, though.

It was our first time using it. We'll keep using it, but I definitely want to look at options for finding low clearances; so this thread is perfect!

X2 on this. I use the laminated Trucker's Atlas religiously. Just be like Dorothy and stay on the yellow brick roads. They also have a listing of each state's low clearance bridges. Texas is the winner.

Get the laminated version and you can use a dry erase marker to plan out your routes. And it will last longer. Got mine at a Loves as I recall. Much cheaper then Amazon.

I also tape my clearance to the dash and use Allstays for planning purposes.

THE BEST source for this is the Rand Mc Nalley MOTOR CARRIERS ROAD ATLAS

They have a list of all low clearances in all 50 states. In addition all routes acceptable for tractor trailers with a 13' 6 inch clearance are marked in yellow on the maps of each state.

They get this information from the ICC and it has been PROVEN over many years. I would not rely on a newer GPS system to get this right.

With a height of 13'5" I don't like to gamble with the routes I take. I run with a RV GPS on the dash that has all my information entered (height, width, length, no. of propane bottles, etc.), plus I consult my Trucker's Atlas prior to setting out for the pre-planned route.

A Trucker's Atlas will give you all low clearances for each state.

I keep a card taped to my dash with my width and height in feet and meters. Driving in Canada one day with DP and toad, rounded a corner and came face to face with a "3.7 meter" underpass. Couldn't back-up and traffic built up behind me. Proceeded slowly and made it but just barely.

I also use Allstays Camp & RV....for bridge heights but for many other uses as well...
walmarts, runaway ramps, some dumpstations, rest areas, lp gas, etc.

Even with the map, the app & other******we all need to know our maximum heigth. Tape it to your dash. I met a couple in Canada who lost their AC, satelite and most of their roof on a low bridge. They were in a motel for two weeks & counting awaiting service insurance repairs.
