Okay, I am willing to accept that signs can go missing. Anything is possible, but a state/city/town would be risking serious liability for not correcting such a situation. Deaths could even happen. I think we can say unmarked low clearances are pretty rare.
And by the way, books or online sources can also have mistakes/omissions.
I'm not interested in carrying around some kind of atlas of low clearances. I suppose that works for those who plan their every move before hitting the road. But not for me.
I will admit that it is easier to be so bold, when I know I have over a foot of excess clearance. Not so easy if you have merely a few inches to spare.
