Magbrin, just to reassure you, Canada is not Africa or South America -- it's a very safe place. The water tasted odd to me -- it lacked the usual urban chemical flavors (mostly chlorine). Grizzly bears are something to be aware of, but not a terrible problem -- just make some noise while you hike, and perhaps carry bear spray. And do not approach moose and elk.
The biggest problem we had in Canada was yakkers. Not yaks -- yakkers. These are very friendly people who wander over to your campsite and start talking and won't leave. Yak, yak, yak.
