- briansueExplorerTo convert pesos to dollars accurately you need to know the exchange rate at the exact minute you change. We almost always get our cash at an ATM machine at a bank as they give the best rate (better than going in the bank)and are safer than using just any old ATM. Rates do vary during times we have been in Mexico. And fuel prices have been going up steadily for the past few years - I think maybe about 10 centavos a month - or a peso or so a year. If you will be going soon you can get a ballpark idea now - but if it will be a while before you go then you can only guesstimate. We do not use our credit cards as they charge an international exchange fee (your's may not). We use debit cards and cash most of the time. We do use credit cards when we pay the vehicle deposit at the border as we know we will get all of that back. We use credit union debit cards to get charge the lowest fee. We do not use bank cards of any kind. All fees must be calculated into what you actually pay for your pesos. We know this when we look at our statement online. What we pay can vary from day to day and from machine to machine. Just more things to keep you on your toes when in a foreign country.
Let's say a peso is worth about 8 cents US. There are 3.78 liters in a US gallon. If a liter costs 7.5 pesos times 8 cents that is about 60 cents a liter times 3.78.
Last I heard gasoline and/or diesel is running in the neighborhood of 13 pesos per liter - so butane/propane is relatively cheap. 6 or 7 years ago we were paying about 7 - 8 pesos a liter for diesel or gasoline - things change. - PNW_SteveExplorer

In Mexico it's mostly butane. (Or at least the places where snowbirds gather). :). Technically I guess it is still LPG. Not too sure. Experts chime in.
It typically is Butane unless sold for use at higher elevations where freezing weather is more common. Straight butane will fail to produce enough vapor to be usable. In those areas a butane/propane mix or straight propane is used.
Both are petroleum byproducts. - PNW_SteveExplorer

Well it looks like $7-8 MXN a litre. My #2 PDA tells me that is around $2.20 USD per gallon.
Does that sound about right?
Thanks - Canadian_RainbiExplorerIn the high county, where it gets cold at night (Patzcuaro etc) it's usually Propane. If the sign says Propano, it's propane. If it says Gas it could be butane or mix.
Sorry I couldn't tell you the price, I just pay it! - John___AngelaExplorer
