- hotpepperkidExplorerTook 46 from 1 today. It's a good road, there is one really long hill. Got to follow a huge dirt moving equipment up the last half of that hill at 20 mph, such fun. East out of Paso to 99 takes you through middle of nowhere
- JohnG3Explorer IIWe pulled a 38 ft 5th wheel for many years from Morro Bay to points east via Hwy 41 to Atascadero where we took Hwy 101 north to Hwy 46 east. At the Cholame "Y" depending on our destination we'd stay on 46 to Bakersfield and south eastern destinations. If we were going to northern destinations we'd take 41 north at the Cholame Y and Hwy 5 north. Never had any issues with the Morro Bay to Atascadero section.
One note, in Atascadero Hwy 41 becomes a narrow rural road that eventually joins with Hwy 46 several miles west of the Cholame Y. If going north on 101 I found it easier to go under the 101 and turn left on El Camino and enter the freeway on ramp across from the Police station. - dicknellenExplorer IIhotpepperkid if that is a ?, 46 is a good highway all the way to 99.
- hotpepperkidExplorerIm going East and im going to pick up 46 in Paso and head to 99
- dicknellenExplorer II46 is best IMHO.
- LwiddisExplorer IINo question CA 46 but both are doable and pretty. I agree with Salem on making a left turn at CA 1 and 46 intersection...can be a long wait.
- KCFDCaptExplorer46 is wider, straighter and has less steep grades. It is longer from Paso Robles to Morro Bay. 41 has some blind curves where it seems to be narrow and other drivers like to cheat the center line. I always take 46 and get to enjoy the view of the ocean as we head to Morro Bay.
- salemExplorerI always take #41. That way we end up right in Morro Bay. Good road, a few curves but no problems at all. If you take #46 sometimes when you come to Hwy 1 it's very difficult to make a left turn due to traffic.
- hotpepperkidExplorerI just came from paso robles to morro bay via 41. It seamed petty steap as I got closer to morro bay. 41 appears to be the shorter on the map. I thought about takin 46 back to pado robles as Im going to take 46 to 99. Towing a 33 ft 5er
- FulltimersExplorerThey are both good roads. I have done both with my 36' motorhome with car in tow. One is more curvy than the other and the other is steeper but I'll be damned if I can remember which is which.
