CA 58 Mojave to Bakersfield

Planning on taking this road tomorrow to avoid driving through LA headed north from Redlands CA.We are experienced mountain drivers but just want to hear any comments people may have about taking 36' DP towing a jeep over that route.
  • we do it every year in our rig. no problem. the climb up from the west is longer than the descent down toward Mohave.
There's a big Love's truck stop at the top.
  • We've done it going west in our MH with toad. One of the easier mountain drives I've done. You should have no problem.
  • The road is a very good road. Not your typical windy mountain road. It is a fairly gradual climb from east to west. On the decent into Bakersfield, watch your speeds.
  • Mojave is used by CHP as a training center. Lots of new officers itching to write tickets. Cruise Control is your friend! And use your turn signals / check your tail lights before you leave.
  • Thanks all for the comments. Looking forward to doing the drive tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up about the CHP training center. Cruise at 55 is very comfortable for us in CA. Just had work done on my connecting cable - new cable and new socket on the Jeep after 6 years of sun and other abuse. Should have lights all the way.
  • Drive completed. Not even a 2 on our scale of 5. Really enjoyed the scenery along the way and "The President is Missing" on Audible made the drive painless.
