Cajon Pass Rehabilitation, So Cal

Be advised that Cajon Pass, 4 out of the next 5 weekends, will have northbound lanes closed. 10pm Fri thru 3pm Mon. Motorists are being advised of " . . . significant traffic delays . . ."

  • Has this not been ongoing for at least 15 years? Not sure I can remember this section NOT being under construction.

Probably another project will start in as soon as this is complete. Can't seem to widen this road fast enough.

I remember when you drove the road beside Cajon Creek from Devore (Kenwood) to 138.
  • I was planning on taking that route the week before Thanksgiving. Should I go a different route?

  • When I originally posted it, there were apparently even more lane closures then now. Since posting, I've driven it both ways in the motorhome & by passenger vehicle. No issues for either other than the standard issues. Avoid high usage times.

This construction project is scheduled to be completed in summer of 2016. While I didn't see any "crawl" advertised, I passed through at about 11 AM today. Definitely miles of construction, periods of stop and go traffic, and all the stuff RVers have come to love about construction zones. FWIW I did not take the new "bypass." I see it is not recommended for trucks and buses.
  • Last week it took me 2 hours to go from Anaheim to Santa Clarita. It took me 4 hours on I-5 to go from Grapevine to Sacramento.
Always something under construction down there.
  • ".....significant traffic delays...."

    That's an understatement.
Northbound Friday evening is a traffic delay will ALL lanes open.....from the 210 to top of Cajon Pass.

I DON'T miss that nightmare one bit (lived in high desert and worked in Etiwanda)
