Calgary-Oregon-Cal.-Vegas-G.C.-Home in 3 weeks??

Hi
Ourselves and another family are thinking this might be a fun trip to try this summer. We both have young teens. Anyone take a similar trip. 3 weeks is sounding a bit tight for all this but it's as much time as we have.

Would try to squeeze in: redwoods, Oregon coast, Calf coast, day with the mouse, Grand Canyon, Vegas, monument valley, red rock canyon and ....

We have friends in Kalamath falls oregon, Bakersfield and Lake Havasu that we might try to say hi to on the way by.

Makes me tired just typing it in let alone driving it! Way too ambitious? Wouldn't want to drive more than 8 hours at a stretch and would want some chance to see a few things not just drive by them.

Any ideas on good routes, places to camp, sights to see etc would be much appreciated. If we do try to visit Mickey a suggestion on how to do it without dragging a trailer through L.A. Would be especially appreciated.

It would be us in a 30' TT and our friends in a 30' motor home

Thanks much.

  • Three weeks? That might get you down the Oregon coast and back. And at that you will probably miss 50% of what there is to see and do in Oregon. Doable? Peobably. Enjoyable? Not likely!
  • You'll see most of it at 55 or 60 MPH!! BUT...if you plan to travel on the California Coast Road, plan on 35 MPH!

Plan to stop and explore / enjoy the special places you visit.

SFO - you could spend the whole 3 weeks there and not see it all!!
'Day with the Mouse' - Disneyland?? That's at least 2 days plus Knotts, The Cruise Ship Queen Mary in Long Beach.....the list of opportunities in just that area is very long!!

OK - see one Redwood and you've seen 'em all? NOT TRUE!! Take time to really learn about the Redwood forests - and Grand Canyon - been there 6 times and I still want to go back for more.

As for Las Vegas - depends on your personal preferences, but at $100 or more per seat for a headliner show, I would rather spend the $$ elsewhere! And be sure to plan a full day for the Hoover Dam tour!!

Yes, you can do it, but since you have a short and specific time available, you need to plan your route, stops, tours and activities with care - and pray you do not loose a day or more waiting for help to fix a blown tire or repairs for other problems!!
