Calif 12 Between I-80 and Hwy 101 ???

Hi everyone -

I'm going from Lodi, Ca over to Hwy 101. First, I'm taking Hwy 12 west to I-80. Heading west on I-80 for a short distance, I can then exit and then continue on 12 to 101 or go a little further on I-80 and pick up Hwy 37 to connect with 101.

Is there a preferred route here ?

Thanks,

Tim

It depends on your final destination. 37 from Vallejo can be (is almost always) a real bottleneck. It you are headed further north on 101, I would take I5 to 16 or 20 west to 101. That will take you through Clear Lake. If you take 20, time it for lunch or dinner and stop at Louie Cairos, the jewel of the valley (Williams, CA). Excellent Italian food.
  • I use I-80 to CA-37 to US-101 as stated above. Use caution on CA-12 from Lodi to Suisun City/Fairfield area. It is 2 lane and there are many accidents on that stretch of road. JMO
  • I commuted that route for 3 years ;)
I'd take 80 to 37 (exit from 80 -> 37 goes right past Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo) and take 37 to 101. 12 will be a waste of time. 37 is 1 lane each direction for several miles, and can quickly become a traffic nightmare, but is very drivable (I've towed my 26' TT through there , as well as the aforementioned commute). Avoid it between 5 and 10am if you can.

Also note that there is currently major road work being done on 80 in Fairfield , so there may be some traffic there (here ;) as well
